Two weeks before Mothers’ Day, I got the chance to purchase the fabric to make a quilt for Mom! I even told the cashier how crazy I thought I was for even attempting to get the quilt finished in time. Between caring for my family, attending church functions, and even a school science fair, I managed to complete and mail the quilt almost on time. It arrived the day after Mothers’ Day. Mom loved it, of course.
One of my favourite parts of quilting is designing the pattern. I used a few kaleidoscope quilt blocks, along with large pieces of fabric to fill in the gaps. When it came to the quilting (another of my favourite steps), I did some stippling around the star centres, and filled in the large spaces with straight lines. To add a special home made touch, each of my children took a turn sewing their own free motion design onto a small section of the quilt.
There was a bit of fabric left over so I decided to make a matching decorative pillow covering and so far it’s looking great! When it is complete, I’ll upload a picture.
